Butcher's Daughter

"I'll take the avocado toast and a Bloody Mary" a surprising sequence of words for a Monday mid morning but when you're at Butcher's Daughter, it's magically Saturday at 11am and all brunching bets are off. It's hard not to want to get a few drinks and stay for hours in what feels like a chic-beachy getaway. As founder and creative director, Heather Tierney describes the feel of her shop, it's a pretty, refreshing take on an old-world butcher shop. The dichotomy of using industrial elements such as concrete floors, steel metal hooks etc, against softer, earthy materials like beached raw wood, white brick, and greenery, give it a blend of masculine and feminine energy, welcoming everyone to the experience.

There are two other locations, (technically three if you count the awesome food truck they have) both of the others in New York. Tierney started her journey in creating dining experience after years of being sent to the top bars and restaurants as a food critic for Time Out New York magazine. Her brother and entrepreneurial partner, Christopher, and she opened Apotheke and Pulqueria, the first a speakeasy cocktail bar and the latter an old world Mexican restaurant. After experimenting with juices for cocktail mixtures, the inspiration for Butcher's Daughter was born.

The experience inside is charming and relaxing once you've been seated. As with all popular restaurants, the wait is not quick, but thankfully Abbott Kinney has the best spots to wander while you wait. The Bloody Mary was the freshest Bloody Mary I've ever had and let's not forget that avocado toast we started with. It's reported that Tierney's #menugoals was to provide the best avocado toast the city had to offer. After trying the avocado toast, we think she may be well on her way to that goal. We're just still trying to figure out... who IS the butcher's daughter?!
